What to focus on when growing your business

There are so many things to focus on when growing your business. The most important thing you should be focusing on is making sure you have an automated sales process that allows you to make sales on autopilot.

Hello and welcome back to another episode of the Virtual Visionary podcast, I’m your host Kara Cahill. And this week I want to talk to you about something that I know I have struggled with in the past and I see so many other entrepreneurs struggle with…and that is where to focus our energy when it comes to growing our business.

And this is something that I feel like it takes so much discipline and can be really hard, especially when you are first starting out because it feels like we have a million and one things to do as business owners, right? And most of us are probably solopreneurs, or just have a part-time assistant helping us out. Also, not to mention that we are also juggling our personal lives and other responsibilities, families, friends, maybe even another part-time job…so our time for our business is super limited.

So the question becomes, how do you actually make sure you are focusing on the things that are actually going to get you results in your business.

The first thing you have to ask yourself is, what results are you actually looking for? And if you are just starting out and you are wanting to maybe leave your full-time job, or you are wanting to go full time in your business and be able to support yourself, the answer is, you need to be focusing on sales! I truly believe that the lifeblood of any business is sales because without sales, you are just going to keep spinning your wheels wondering why you are working so hard trying to grow this business so you can have more freedom, more time with your friends and family, to leave your job…and you feel like you are spending all this time working to grow your business but at the end of the day if you have no sales you are no closer to achieving that goal.

So sales really need to become your number one priority. But, I also know that we get caught up in thinking that so many things are going to be the magic bullet that is going to actually makes us sales, and I have fallen into this trap so many times before because it is easy to fall into.

When we sit down to work each day, we think about, okay, what do I need to do today. Okay, I need to make a website, I should probably create a logo, I should probably create an Instagram reel because I heard those perform really well, I should probably send out an email to my list, maybe I will think about starting a podcast…I mean you get it, there truly are 10 million things we could be doing as business owners each day.

But before you do any of that, you have to ask yourself, is this action, is this activity that I am going to work on, is this ultimately going to bring me more sales. And yes, you could argue that having a beautiful website, or spending time curating the most perfect Instagram grid might get someone to think maybe you’re are more professional or maybe they like the colors you chose so they are more interested in learning more, at the end of the day, those things don’t matter nearly as much as you might think.

The most important tithing that you need to be focusing on, if you are not where you want to be sales-wise, is to focus on getting your sales process up and running so you can begin testing and tweaking it.

Your sales process includes the system and strategies that generate leads and convert them into buyers with an automated process. I talk all about how to set this up in my free masterclass you can watch at karacahill.com/freetraining

If you are not where you want to be sales-wise, your number one job as an entrepreneur needs to be getting this sales process set up so that you can create a predictable, automated sales process so that you can then focus on generating leads each day with strategic content.

If you are spending time creating beautiful graphics or choosing the perfect colors for your posts without a sales process in place it’s kinda like going to an open house because the outside of the house is beautiful and catches your eye, but when you go inside you see there isn’t a lot going on so you end up leaving.

The same goes for your business. If your graphics are super pretty but you don’t have a clear system to guide a new follower into working with you or buying from you, they will ultimately end up leaving and going somewhere else.

Your number one focus needs to be getting that sales process up and running and then focusing on generating leads! And this process can be messy, in fact, it should be a little messy at first because the data that you begin collecting once you put it out into the world is going to guide you on how you are supposed to go in and tweak it.

Action creates clarity and clarity creates results.

If you are spending time creating the perfect graphics or perfecting your logo, you are staying stuck in in-action. Those things can wait, those things can be fixed later, and probably when you have made enough sales to hire a professional to help you do it even better than you could because that is probably not your zone of genius.

When you stay stuck doing all the little minor tasks that don’t actually move the needle for you, you are really just procrastinating and delaying your success.

Focus on the thing that will generate momentum for you and ultimately lead to sales, and that is how you are going to keep growing and growing and impacting more and more people. Your audience needs you, your people need what you are selling, don’t make them wait because you are stuck designing a logo instead of selling to the people that need you the most!

So like I said, one of the most important things you can be focusing on as you grow your business is setting up that sales system, that automated sales process. I go over how you can set this up for your own business inside of my free training at karacahill.com/freetraining. Head over there, watch that training, and put that on your action-driven to-do list!

You are all amazing, I am so excited for you to start getting those sales funnels up and running and making sales for your online business!
