Hello everyone!
Welcome to 2022, so excited to be recording the first podcast of the year! And I wanted to start this year off with a story that I feel like so many people can relate to and hopefully is a good reminder to always go for your goals, do the things that scare you or that people tell you can’t be done, and to remember that you are capable of doing amazing things.
And that is what 2022 is all about for me personally. Idk about you, but I feel like the past two years have been so tough in so many ways. I know for me, it has been so hard mentally to stay focused, to stay positive, and to keep working towards goals when every day something seems to want to get in the way.
I have a lot of hope that this year, 2022 is finally the year that things start to get back to normal, that we can realign our goals and your big visions and dreams and get back on track!
That is my hope, and with that, I want to share a story that I was reminded of the other day and that I feel goes back to my personal big picture WHY for my business.
If you don’t know, back in 2018 and before starting my business I was working at a bridal shop. I was working 10+ hours and working every weekend with very little time off or flexibility.
I was so burnt out, I was so miserable and I was just so exhausted that I was so desperate to find another job that I went to a job hunter or a career placement company, not exactly sure what they are called but basically someone that helps you find a job.
So I went to this meeting, and I was so hopeful that she would be able to help me find a way out of my current situation and finally help me find my dream job. I had been searching online for remote jobs, and work from home jobs and I had been applying like crazy, but I wasn’t having much luck so I was really hoping that she would be able to help.
I show up to the meeting, resume in hand, I was so ready! So she asks me, so what type of job are you looking for.
I told her, I wanted something different, and my only main criteria were that I didn’t want to work weekends anymore, I had done 5 years of working weekends and was ready to have a life again. And I told her I wanted to be able to work remotely or from home.
Other than that, I had tons of skills and I was super eager to learn or be trained on anything!
She laughed right in my face.
Literally, laughed and snarkily said, “ yeah that would be nice…so realistically what type of job do you want?”
My heart literally sunk to my stomach.
Here I was, hoping that this lady would help me. Instead, she literally told me that I was crazy for wanting a career that allowed for flexibility.
Needless to say, I walked out of the meeting completely defeated and so bummed knowing that I would have to go back to my job, with no hope of any other options.
After I took some time to wallow in self-pity for a few hours…I finally turned that frustration and disappointment into something more productive…taking action to prove her wrong.
At the time, I didn’t know anyone that was working online. I didn’t know anyone that was working remotely or had a job that would allow for more than two weeks travel time.
So of course, I went online and on Instagram and started following travel bloggers, influencers, coaches. All these other people that WERE working online and I learned everything that I could about starting a business online.
A few weeks later, I booked a ticket to Bali to join the Pangea Dreams Retreat. There they taught us how to run a social media business as soon as I got back, I launched my business and within a month I had my first client.
They always say, that when you are determined to make something happen, you find ways to do it.
And that is exactly what happened here. I was so determined to work online because I knew it was possible for others, so why couldn’t it be possible for me? And I definitely was not going to let the small-minded thinking of someone who told me I wouldn’t be able to work online, stop me from making it happen.
I mean, imagine if I had let her tell me that stop me from following my dream. Where would I be? Stuck at some desk job, dreaming of traveling instead of planning my trip to Italy this spring.
So, if there is a dream that you have been chasing, or if there are people that tell you you won’t be able to do something or that it will never work…don’t give up and don’t listen to them!
If you believe in yourself and you are determined enough, you can make anything happen, I truly believe that!
So, as we move into 2022 I hope you start this year with that same determination and I hope that you allow yourself to dream bigger and believe that the goal you chasing is 100% possible for you, I believe in you!
