Instagram and Email marketing go together like peanut butter and jelly, so why aren’t more people using Instagram to grow their email list?
The problem I see most online experts making is that they are solely focusing on growing their Instagram following. I get it, getting more followers is the sexy metric to measure, but it is not what really matters and I will get into why that is a problem in a moment. But for now, I simply want to let you know that if you are wondering which you should be focusing on…the answer is both!
They pair together perfectly like a glass of wine and a cheese board because you can use your Instagram to grow your email list and then use your email list to pitch your offers and make you money. Do I have your attention now? Great, let’s dive in!
So first and foremost, why is only focusing on Instagram a problem?
The answer is, you don’t own your Instagram following. I have said it time and time again, but you don’t own the Instagram followers that you have been working so hard to gain. Mark Zuckerburg does.
Let me ask you what would happen if tomorrow Mark Zuckerburg decided to switch the algorithm. Or your profile gets hacked and you can’t log in. Or Instagram unexpectedly shuts down. You would have no way to get in touch with all of your followers. YIKES!
That is the problem with building your business on borrowed land. While we don’t expect those things to happen, the truth is, you don’t have control over your business if you are only focusing on Instagram.
So what should you be doing instead? Glad you asked!
Use Instagram to grow your email list!
Your email list is the single most profitable and powerful asset in your business, and you have complete control. You have direct access to land in your ideal clients inboxes with just a click of a button (no pesky algorithms getting in your way).
We all know that the algorithm has decreased organic reach on Instagram, so most of your audience is not seeing the majority of your posts. However, when you send and email it is landing in your audiences inbox 100% of the time (now getting them to open is another discussion for another day).
So how do we use Instagram to grow our list?
First, you want to make sure that you have a killer freebie for someone to opt-in for! You then want to promote that freebie all over your Instagram page (stories, posts, highlights, etc). You also want to make sure that you have the link that goes directly to the freebie opt-in page, and a clear call to action in your bio letting them know that is where the link will take them! Now when you are growing your following, many of those followers will convert into email subscribers and you will be growing your list alongside your social following. Not only is this going to help you grow your audience, but they are getting more exposure to you and more opportunities to build the know/like/trust factor that will turn them into a buyer down the road!
