Welcome to the virtual visionary podcast! I am so excited you’re here! I wanted to kick off the launch of this podcast by sharing a bit of my story, and letting you know what this podcast is going to be about!
I have thought about hosting a podcast for so long, but something was always coming up and the timing was never right so I am excited to finally be able to kick things off and be able to connect with you though a podcast! When I first started my business, podcasts were a huge way that I learned new tips and strategies and got the inspiration to actually believe that building an online business was possible so I am so excited to be able to create a podcast of my own and hopefully inspire other aspiring entrepreneurs to take the leap and start their business and believe that their business is 100% possible too!
If this is our first time connecting, my name is kara cahill and I am an Instagram strategist for online entrepreneurs. I started my business back in 2019 when I was still at my 9-5 job. I was working as a bridal consultant and at the time it was my absolute dream job. Growing up I always wanted to be in the wedding industry, planning weddings or selling dresses like you see on Say Yes To the Dress. After years of working in the industry, I finally moved my way up to the assistant manager position of the most gorgeous bridal boutique. I thought I had totally “made it”. I was doing what I loved, I got to work in the most beautiful shop, helping these brides find their dream dress. And while it was so much fun some days…reality quickly set in when I started working 12 hour shifts, my feet were numb from standing all day, I had brides turn into bridezillas screaming at me and I was working every weekend with very little time off.
I just remember having my friends ask me to hang out on the weekends or family trips that I would have to say no to because I was working this job. I kept telling myself that this was my dream job, this was normal, everyone had to make sacrifices for their career…but I knew deep down that this wasn’t what I wanted for my life and that there had to be more.
So I asked myself, what made me the happiest, when was a time that I was at my best? And the answer that quickly popped into my head was when I am traveling. I studied abroad in Florence, Italy back in college and I remember just feeling absolutely amazing and telling myself that I wanted to be able to travel to so many places adn live this extraordinary life. However, as soon as I graduated, I quickly fell into the trap of getting the job, having 2 weeks vacation and giving up on that dream.
One day I remember thinking to myself, I can’t do this anymore. I can’t go to this job and be this unhappy for the rest of my life so I decided to start researching ways that I could work and travel. I started hearing about all these people who were working online and working remotely and I became obsessed with figuring out how they were doing it and how I could do it too!
I decided I wanted to start my own online business…but I quickly realized I had no idea how to begin. I had no business background, no connections in the online space and I had zero audience to sell anything to. I was starting completely from scratch.
But, if you are working at a job you absolutely hate, you will probably relate to the fact that you will do anything to get out of it…and that’s what I did. I started reading every blog, listening to every podcast and taking every course about how to start an online business and how to grow an audience on social media. I even booked a ticket to a social media retreat in Bali that gave me the jumpstart I needed to get things going.
When I came back from that retreat, I launched my business and within 6 months I had booked out my social media management services to the point I was able to leave my job…and it felt amazing!
Since then, I have launched my signature online course, The Gram Guide, and have helped entrepreneurs set up a strategic sales process for their instagram accounts that allow them to make sales on autopilot everyday!
I absolutely love what I do and I love running my own business…but of course, running a business comes with so many challenges, right? I am not here to sugar coat the challenges of entrepreneurship, whether it be having to figure things out on the fly, to having team members quit, to the imposter syndrome that is ready to unravel your entire business right?
So that is the goal of this podcast, to share the tips and the strategies that will help you get stated and grow your online business but also share stories like mine of incredible people who decided to do things differently, and decided that they wanted a business that gave them the freedom to work online and do something that made them excited to work each day!
I want to highlight these stories because that was one thing that really helped me get started was seeing it was possible for others. When you see other people doing what you want to do, it helps you see what is possible for you too. If they can do it, you can too! Everytime I had doubt, or wondered will this ever work out, I would listen to someone’s story that was similar to mine and know that I wasn’t alone, I wasn’t crazy for wanting to start a business that was outside of the normal corporate life, and that if these other people who felt the way I did were able to live these amazing lives…I could do it too.
So that is my goal, to make sure to bring you both the tangible actionable business and social media tips so that you can start taking action and implementing, but also bring you the dose of inspiration that is always needed when you are running a business!
So that’s it for the very first episode! I am so excited to have you on this podcast journey with me!
